Walk the Fimmvörðuháls mountain pass and marvel at some of the most breathtaking views in South Iceland. This day tour is the perfect option for hikers who are keen to get off of the beaten path and walk among glaciers and misty mountain tops.
On this day tour, you will hike Fimmvörðuháls, the area that lies between the glaciers Eyjafjallajökull and Mýrdalsjökull in South Iceland into the green and lush Goðaland and Thórsmörk, the land of the god and Thórsmörk, the Valley of Thor.
Expect an exciting, challenging and strenuous long day of walking. The view is often boundless and breathtaking. You will get acquainted with the forces that created and shaped Iceland: Fire and ice standing side by side where glaciers meet volcanic mountains.
To make the most of the day, you will set off early in the morning at 6 AM departing from one of Iceland’s most famous waterfalls, Skógarfoss.
The hiking route between Skógar and Thórsmörk goes through the pass call Fimmvörduháls, that can be translated as “the mountain pass of the five trail signs”. It is one of the most popular mountain trails in Iceland. It is about 22 kilometres long and involves a 1,000-meter climb (change in altitude).
You will ascend past 26 waterfalls, known as ‘Waterfall Way’ and stand atop a mountain that was created in the 2010 eruption when volcanic ash from Iceland famously halted European air traffic.
Expect to feel humbled by the grandiose landscape and still, at the same time you may feel invigorated and powerful to have made it, over a harsh mountain pass, along deep canyons into the lush Thórsmörk.
Don’t miss your opportunity to climb above the clouds and marvel at some of the most stunning landscapes in South Iceland. Check availability by choosing a date.
