Follow your experienced local mountain guide across the steep and snowy slopes of Mt. Dyrfjöll in East Iceland.

Walk amongst the clouds with this intrepid hiking tour up one of the points of pride of East Iceland, the mighty Dyrfjöll Mountains. This tour is perfect for thrill seekers, amateur mountaineers and nature enthusiasts alike.

The Dyrfjöll mountain range (literally translation “Door Mountains”) rise to an altitude of 1136 m (3660 ft), located between the Héraðssandur plains and Borgarfjörður Eystri.

The mountain range derives its name from the enormous gap or ‘door’ naturally carved into the mountainside. It is one of many factors why mystical Icelanders claim the mountain is home to the Elf Queen of Iceland. The only way to know for sure is to climb the mountain yourself.

You will be transferred from your accommodation to the base camp of the mountain, where your knowledgeable and friendly guide will eagerly provide you with all of the necessary hiking gear (ie; crampons, hiking poles, etc).

Your guide will also give you a safety briefing on how to navigate yourself during the tour. Beware that the mountains are a plethora of untouched mossy expanse, with trails that are often made up of loose gravel. Make sure to bring some excellent hiking boots!

Throughout your hike, you will witness some incredible panoramas of the surrounding scenery; saw-toothed mountains, rolling farmlands and carving rivers surround the mountain, making it an excellent perspective from which to take photographs. Don’t forget your camera!

At the end of your hike, you will take a short drive to the seaside spa of Blábjörg. Here, you will relax your tired muscles in the luxurious warm pools, all the while enjoying sweeping views of the Borgarfjörður Fjord. After a sufficient relaxation period, you will be transferred back to your accommodation.

So don’t miss your chance to hike the famous Dyrfjöll mountains and you too can experience the adventure and majesty of East Iceland’s most cherished mountain. Check availability by choosing a date.
