Mt. Snæfell Hiking Midnight Tour
Go nocturnal with this hike of the majestic Mount Snæfell for your chance to see the Midnight Sun rising over the mountaintops. This tour is perfect for adventurous travellers who want to make the most of their vacation hours.
This is the midnight equivalent of the Mount Snæfell Day tour, with both involving an adrenaline fuelled hike up the mountainside. Whilst day tours are normally undertaken on Mount Snæfell’s ‘normal route’, midnight trekkers prefer hiking the north-east ridge.
But the main difference is, of course, the time of departure. With the midnight tour, you will still be emblazoned by the sunshine, with the sun rising in the north between 1.00 AM and 3.00 AM. This makes for a truly unique and strange experience, made complete by the brilliant landscapes that surround the mountain; truly a fantastic spot for photography enthusiasts. Mount Snæfellis no place to forget your camera.
When you arrive at the mountain, you will meet your friendly and experienced guide who will proceed to give a safety briefing about mountaineering as well as providing you with all the necessary equipment, from hiking poles to crampons.
Weather permitting, it might be possible to slide part way down the mountain after reaching it’s highest summits. After all, what goes up must come down!
On your way back to your accommodation, it is often pleasant to stop at the relaxing natural hot pools in Laugarfell Highland Hostel. Nothing can quite beat soaking your tired muscles in the early, twilight hours. You will also have a tasty breakfast included, excellent for regathering your strength.
Hurry now and you too can undertake this intrepid midnight hiking expedition up the diverse and beautiful Mount Snaefell, blanketed warmly by the cover of the Midnight Sun. Check availability by choosing a date.

Snaefell, in the east of the Icelandic highlands, is the highest freestanding mountain in the country. It is located within the vast Vatnajokull National Park.
This impressive mountain of 1833 meters is located northeast of Vatnajokull glacier and dominates the area by around 1000 meters. On clear days it in turn offers a magnificent view. Snaefell is an old volcano but has not seen volcanic activity for 10.000 years.
East of the mountain is the Eyjabakkar oasis with its rich flora and nesting place for pink-footed geese. The Vesturoraefi (‘Western wilderness’) is frequented by reindeer.
