Guided 4 Hour Valley to Valley Hike through the Westfjords with Transfer from Isafjordur
Description
Summary
Description
Explore the mountains, valleys and ocean views of the Westfjords with this hike from Ísafjörður. This tour should not be missed by those who want to see untouched nature and awe-inspiring landscapes.
The tour begins in Ísafjörður, where you will meet your guide and group before taking a short bus ride to the Seljalandsdalur ski area. From here, you will embark on your hike and set off past pristine lakes, trickling streams, luminous moss and towering mountains.
This is an ancient landscape, being the first part of Iceland that rose from the ocean 16 million years ago. As such, the nature is quite different to the rest of the country, with fewer geothermal areas and lava fields, but it is no less spectacular.
After an hour of trekking, you will reach the Þjófatindur Peaks, a beautiful mountain with two distinct summits. You’ll take a route that zig-zags to a path between them, where you will stop for a lunch you brought with you. With views over the fjords and untouched landscapes, there is no better place for a picnic.
Following your refreshing break, you’ll descend into the beautiful valley on the other side of the pass. After trekking through more fields of wildflowers, in the shadow of beautiful mountains, you will reach the village of Hnífsdalur. Here, a minibus will be waiting to whisk you back to Ísafjörður.
This is a moderately difficult hike, which involves uphill ascents, but only lasts four hours. It is therefore manageable for anyone with a reasonable level of fitness who is comfortable on their feet and is over the age of twelve.
The Westfjords is a spectacular region that all who have the time should visit in the summer. Do not let this immersive hike through its untouched landscapes pass you by. Check availability choosing a date.
