Description

Spend a special day with just your traveling group exploring some of Iceland’s beautiful sites on this fantastic private South Coast tour. Those eager to make the most of this country’s natural opportunities without worrying about the needs of other tourists should grab their tickets now! You’ll be met at your Reykjavik hotel with your group of up to eight by your friendly, personal guide, who will escort you to your modern, comfortable vehicle for the day. From here, you will set out on a beautiful journey to your first destination, passing geothermal power plants and striking landscapes and being able to see the Myrdalsjokull glacier and the Westman Islands on a clear day.  As you travel, your guide will point out interesting landmarks and be open to any of your questions about the country, its history, and its folklore. Your first major stop will be at Skogafoss waterfall, one of the region’s most powerful and impressive features. Over 60 meters tall, tumbling in a great cascade, and throwing off clouds of white spray, you’ll be able to walk along a river to where it is falling and ascend a staircase beside it. After this, you’ll head to a breathtaking beach, Reynisfjara. With its ominous black sands and powerful waves, it is quite the haunting sight, an atmosphere added to considering its mythology. Just offshore are two great basalt sea stacks, which tales dictate are two trolls frozen by sunlight as they attempted to drag a ship in from the sea. Adjacent to the beach is the village of Vik, your next stop. You’ll be able to find refreshments here, as well as enjoy its pleasant architecture, beautiful surroundings, and authentic atmosphere. You’ll next reach Solheimajokull glacier, a tongue of the ice cap of Myrdalsjokull. The terrain created by this dramatic feature is spectacular. You’ll be able to marvel over blue ice, snow veined with black ash from past eruptions, bizarre formations, and a glacier lagoon.  Finally, you’ll head to Seljalandsfoss and Gljufrabui, two waterfalls. The former is as tall as Skogafoss, and despite being less powerful, just as impressive due to the vast cavern behind it. The latter hides in a cave within a cliffside gorge, creating a mystical ambiance and attracting far fewer tourists. As this is a private tour, you can organize extra trips to add to your sightseeing, such as snowmobiling, an ATV ride, or a glacier hike, before heading back to Reykjavik. Discover the wonderful sites of the South Coast with a personal guide on this private adventure from Reykjavik. Check availability by choosing a date.
