Description

Discover the South Coast of Iceland on this incredible private day tour.

The South Coast of Iceland is well-known for its beautiful landscape. Black sand beaches, waterfalls, glaciers, mountains and cliffs characterise this area. Driving along the South Coast, you will pass farms, agricultural livestock and you will most likely see the Icelandic horse on the way.

Your guide will recommend stopping at the LAVA Center in Hvolsvöllur. The exhibition explains some of the great natural forces that have shaped the earth and will give you some insights into the incredible landscapes in Iceland.

There is a waterfall, Seljalandsfoss, which drops 60 metres from the cliffs above. What makes it unique is that it is possible to walk behind it. It might be a good idea to bring a raincoat because the spray of the waterfall will make you wet.

Farther along the way, you will come to another magnificent waterfall, Skogarfoss. It's about the same height as Seljalandsfoss but much wider and it contains much more water. There is a path up the slope next to it. Walk up it to enjoy the view of the waterfall from above.

At Skogar, there is a museum where you can find an excellent representative of early house buildings in Iceland.

The next stop is Solheimajokull, an outlet glacier of Myrdalsjokull.

It is about a 1 km walk from the car to the glacier. The glacier has a lot of magnificent ice formations and rugged ridges and makes for a fantastic photo.

From Solheimajokull, your journey continues to Reynisfjara, a famous black sand beach. There you should be aware of the dangerous waves crashing against the shore. On the beach, you can see beautiful cliffs, unusual rock formations and basalt rock columns.

Your final stop is at Vik, a small village on the South Coast. It is good to stretch your legs here and take a walk around the town. Walk down to the beach to take in the view of Reynisdrangar, a basalt sea-stack standing offshore from Reynisfjall. Here it is possible to have lunch before turning back to Reykjavik.

As this is a private tour, your guide is more than happy to organise the trip to include any extra stops that are of interest to you and change the schedule to meet your wishes.
