Description

Discover the most beautiful attractions of the South Coast of Iceland on this 12-hour private day tour from Reykjavik. Those who want to see waterfalls, black sand beaches, and glaciers with the convenience of a private guide will love the itinerary of this excursion.

This sightseeing tour departs from Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland. You or your private group will be picked up from your hotel or a desired location in the city for convenience.

The South Coast of Iceland is well-known for its beautiful landscapes. This region is characterized by black sand beaches, waterfalls, glaciers, mountains, and cliffs. Driving along the South Coast, you will also pass farms, so you will most likely see the Icelandic horse or sheep on the way.

First on your itinerary is Seljalandsfoss waterfall, which drops 200 feet (60 meters) from the cliffs above. What makes it unique is that it is possible to walk behind it. It might be a good idea to bring a raincoat because the spray of the waterfall will make you wet.

Farther along the way, you will come to another magnificent waterfall, Skogafoss. It's about the same height as Seljalandsfoss but much wider and drops more water. There is a path up the slope next to it that you can climb to enjoy the view of the waterfall from above.

At the nearby Skogar village, there is a museum where you can find an excellent representative of early house buildings in Iceland.

Your guide may also recommend stopping at the LAVA Center in Hvolsvollur. The exhibition explains some of the great natural forces that have shaped the earth and will give you some insights into the incredible landscapes in Iceland.

Your next stop is Solheimajokull, an outlet glacier of the Myrdalsjokull ice cap. It is about a 15 to 20-minute walk from the parking lot to the glacier's edge. The glacier has a lot of magnificent ice formations and rugged ridges, which makes for a fantastic photo.

From Solheimajokull, your journey continues to Reynisfjara, a famous black sand beach. There, you should be aware of the dangerous waves crashing against the shore. On the beach, you can see beautiful cliffs, unusual rock formations, and basalt rock columns.

Your final stop is at Vik, a small village on the South Coast. It is good to stretch your legs here and take a walk around the town. Walk down to the beach to take in the view of Reynisdrangar, a basalt sea-stack standing offshore from Reynisfjall.

At the village, it is possible to have a quick meal before returning to Reykjavik.

As this is a private tour, your guide is more than happy to organize the trip to include any extra stops that interest you and change the schedule to meet your wishes.
