Description

Enjoy an incredible thrill with the only zip line in the world on a glacier, and explore an ice cave when you book this exciting excursion. Those eager to explore some of Iceland's exceptional natural beauty with a touch of added adventure should book this tour now.

The tour begins at the meeting point at the Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon car park in Vatnajokull National Park. You'll meet the expert guide leading the day's adventure here. You'll board a four-wheel drive vehicle and go offroading to the glacier. The ice cap is only accessible with a four-wheel drive. It's a bit of a bumpy ride, but that all adds to the excitement, and you'll be in safe hands.

Along the way, you'll travel through an ancient glacier plain, and your guide will tell you about the area's history. When you reach the glacier's parking lot, your guide will give you all the safety equipment you need for the ice-caving tour, including crampons, an ice axe, a harness, and a helmet with a headlamp.

You can also rent hiking boots if you don't have them. You'll need sturdy hiking shoes that cover your ankle.

From here, it's around a 30-minute hike to the glacier's edge. It is a relatively easy hike, which anyone with reasonable fitness can do. Your group will take a relaxed pace so you can enjoy the view as you trek across the rocky ice cap to the ice cave.

Before entering the cave, your guide will give you a thorough safety briefing to ensure your group knows how to behave inside the ice cave.

Iceland's ice caves change yearly as the glacier retreats and advances. The ice movement means that each ice-caving experience is unique.

You'll have time to enjoy the stunning beauty and otherworldly atmosphere of the crystal blue walls and icy structures. Your guide will take your photographs as you explore. They'll be able to get the best angles of both you and the cave.

You'll spend around an hour in the cave before going to the zip line. You'll continue hiking over the Breidamerkurjokull glacier while your guide points out different ice formations around you.

Then, it's time for zip-lining, the most thrilling part of the tour. Jump on the zip line and enjoy the ride as you admire the glacier from above. It's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see one of Iceland's glaciers from above and get an adrenaline rush at the same time.

After your zip line ride, you'll hike back to the glacier parking lot and then drive back to the meeting point in the four-wheel drive.

Take advantage of this unique tour, exploring an ice cave, hiking on a glacier, and zip-lining above the ice. Check availability now by choosing a date.

Good to know

Ice caves are a dynamic ever-changing natural phenomenon. Each year, old ice caves melt and new ice caves appear.

Photos that you see of the cave at any given time will not necessarily mean that is what you will experience on your tour. This makes each experience unique and special.

This tour involves roughly two hours of hiking. The first half of the terrain is very flat yet rocky and is relatively easy for a person of average fitness. The second half is hiking on the glacier which goes up a gradual incline for about 20 minutes. The overall hike is rated as easy, with some areas of moderate exercise.

Photo packages may sometimes take more or less than 14 days to edit.
