Come join the action and learn the basics of surfing on the rolling waves of Iceland’s beautiful south coast!

Surfing is one of the last things that come to people’s mind when they think about Iceland, but this small island boasts incredible waves, beautifully natural backdrops and a surfing culture all unto its own.

Surfing in Iceland is a fast growing industry, drawing only the bravest thrill-seekers from across the planet. Iceland may not have the warmest water in the world, but surfing here is sure to provide a true blast of adrenaline and a lifetime of memories.

You will be surfing at the stunning Þorlákshöfn, nestled on the south coast approximately 50 km south from Reykjavik. You will be enchanted by the blue ocean and volcanic sands as you gear up on the black-sand beach, dressing in the wetsuit, gloves and hoods provided to you by your guide.

Under the watching gaze of Eyjafjallajökull glacier, you will learn the basic moves of surfing, as well as basic safety principles for your time on the water.

Þorlákshöfn is the perfect spot for both beginners and pro surfers alike, with a variety of wave sizes and breaks. You can expect to see and ride both beach breaks and point breaks, though you'll be taught the basic principles of surfing on the beach breaks. Your lesson will last for approximately one hour.

If you include at least four friends in your trip, your guide will ensure your surf school is private and personalised. Please note that trips are not undertaken if the waves are too big or small, but this is known three days in advance of your lesson.

Lessons run all year round, so what are you waiting for? Hurl yourself into the waves of the North Atlantic and you too can surf like a pro in the ‘Hawaii of the North’! Check availability by choosing a date.

I had the best day! Our guides Adam and Bryndís were so knowledgeable and helpful and kind. I was nervous cos I've only surfed once before but don't be! Even the journey there was fun and they told us so many interesting things:) the van and the gear is all great too and the wetsuits are thick enough that even in March we were warm. It even started snowing a bit at one point and I was thrilled. I found this company original doing the silfra snorkelling which was amazing so I came with Adventure Viking again! The guides were fabulous, Bryndís looked so at home in the water, and super cool like she wins surf comps weekly and Adam I'm pretty sure is related to Thor
