Description

Come on a fantastic off-road adventure exploring Iceland's waterfalls, frozen plateaus and rugged coastlines. On this tour, you will be taken from Akureyri to some of the most beautiful waterfalls in Northern Iceland, if not the whole country; the perfect choice for nature enthusiasts and passionate photographers.

The first waterfall of the day is Goðafoss ("Waterfall of the Gods"). Goðafoss is one of Iceland’s most known waterfalls, both for its stunning beauty and for its remarkable history.

According to the Sagas, the waterfall got its name from when the Law-speaker, Þorgeir Ljósvetningagoði Þorkelsson—who was a pagan priest and chieftain (Goði)—made Christianity the official religion of Iceland. After making his decision, he is said to have thrown his statues of the Norse gods into the waterfall. The water from the glacial river, Skjálfandafljót, falls down from a height of 12 meters over a width of 30 meters.

From there, you will be driven up Bárðardalur valley, towards the vast highlands; there, you go off-road through the deep snow to reach the majestic waterfall, Aldeyjarfoss. Tumbling through a narrow passage into a wide basin, the black basalt columns provide a stark contrast to the thrashing white foam, making it one of Iceland’s photographic gems.

Next, you will be taken further up the river to reach the last, but not the least, waterfall; Hrafnabjargafoss. This waterfall is not known by many and very few tourists ever see it, especially during the wintertime. The falls spread out over a series of cliffs and, at one point, falls into a closed and picturesque rock bowl below.

After testing your skills in the harsh highlands, you will make a little expedition all the way to the North Atlantic beach at Kaldakinn, where spectacular Himalayan like mountains loom over a frozen ice wall. Here you have quite a spectacular vista of mountains, ice formation and the Atlantic Ocean.

Don't hesitate to join this adventure of a lifetime visiting the many majestic waterfalls that dot Iceland! Check availability by choosing a date.
