Northern Lights & Secret Lagoon

Northern Lights & Secret Lagoon
Watching the auroras descend from the stars above is an incredible experience.
The ever elusive Northern Lights shining above the rural landscape of Iceland.
The Northern Lights & Secret Lagoon tour takes you to ideal locations for Northern Lights gazing.
The Northern Lights are one of Iceland's most sought out natural phenomena.
Usually green but occasionally red, white, purple and blue, the Northern Lights will captivate you.
The dancing, swirling Northern Lights, so often hunted by travellers to Iceland.

Bask in the soothing waters of the Secret Lagoon hot spring while marvelling over the incredible Northern Lights. This classic Icelandic winter experience is the perfect combination of relaxation and inspiration, and should not be missed by anyone travelling to Iceland between August and April.

You will be picked up from your accommodation in Reykjavík in the afternoon, in a Super Jeep designed for your comfort. These jeeps have a limited number of seats, so you can be guaranteed that your tour will be as personal and intimate as possible.

Once your group is gathered, you will head straight out of the city to the charming village of Flúðir. Here, you will find the Secret Lagoon, immersed in nature. This is Iceland’s oldest swimming pool, established in 1891, and is a place where history and natural beauty combine.

The steam rising from the pool and the surrounding geothermal area give the Secret Lagoon an otherworldly appearance, more similar fantasy than reality. The only thing more magical than staring at it, however, is basking in its pristine waters, which year-round are between 38 and 39° Celsius (100 to 102° Fahrenheit).

The pool itself has been kept in its natural state, to preserve its history and character; all modern amenities, however, such as changing facilities, showers, and an on-site cafe, have been established to make your stay as carefree as possible. It is thus possible to kick back and relax in comfort, with your eyes on the night sky, awaiting the arrival of the Northern Lights.

Watching the auroras descend from the canopy of stars above while basking in the lagoon is an incredible experience. The dancing, swirling lights, usually green but occasionally red, white, purple and blue, will captivate you for hours, and make sure that this evening will stay with you for life.

If you are not lucky enough to see the lights from the Secret Lagoon, do not despair; your Super Jeep will come in very handy. With its ability to take rough trails off the beaten track that buses cannot, it is possible for your guide to take you to the darkest, most secluded areas with the least cloud cover so that you can have another opportunity to enjoy this rare and bewitching sight.

As with many things in nature, however, there are no guarantees that the aurora borealis will show. If they are acting elusive and your guide does not believe they will come out, you will get to visit more hot-springs instead, or perhaps even go caving as an alternative, based on the desires of your group.

So grab your camera, warm clothes, and swimsuit, and get ready for this enchanting, awe-inspiring tour. Combining hot springs, the Northern Lights, and incredible nature, this trip will let you enjoy a classic Icelandic winter experience in comfort and style. Book your place now.
